Sage was introduced to karting at 4 years old when his father brought home a TopKart 50cc kid kart. Sage practiced driving on a tract of land his purchased to build a home. As the home progressed, the homemade track got smaller. His parents decided to let him try his first dirt oval track race that same fall year. Sage got 4 th in his first race. The entire family was hooked on racing since that day.
The following year, Sage tried racing in Cuddebackville, New York at Oakland Valley Rae Park. Sage had a lot of fun and learned a lot about the rules of racing and flags. Sage got into the competitive side of karting at 6 years old and started winning kid kart races. He won the Stars of Karting Grand National Championship in Kid Karting when just 7 years old.
It was time to move on to the cadet class. Although not old enough to compete Nationally, OVRP allowed Sage to compete in club races. The cadet class was a lot faster than kid karts. Although Sage didn’t win any races, he podiumed several times.
Finally, Sage turned 8 and was allowed to compete in National events. The National level was very challenging, but he managed to pull off a podium as an 8 year old. But, when Sage turned 9, great things began to happen. He started winning National events in the cadet category. He also started racing in the Yamaha and HPV classes. In 2005, Sage captured the Stars of Karting National Championship overall. He also won the WKA Grand National title in Yamaha and Cadet the same year.
