3/13/09 -- Karam Chases Down the Field in Ocala By: Walters Web Design NAZARETH, PA - (March 13th, 2009) -- Sage Karam passed more karts than any other driver on the weekend during the Stars of Karting opener in Ocala, Florida. Due to the carelessness of the usual characters, Sage was forced off the track and he spotted the entire field more than twenty-five kart lengths after joining the field. Sage went into “damage-control” mode and picked off almost one kart a lap. Sage’s respectable 8th place finish was a very rewarding experience. It was the vintage Sage style passing that we’ve grown used to. “Of course I wanted to win, but I think I got more out of passing all those karts than I would have if I started on pole”, said Sage. “The new Birel chassis was the best I’ve been in. I was without my dad this weekend, so, Chris (Lobaugh) took over the dad’s tuning duties. Chris was awesome and I think we will stick with him.” “I really missed not being with Sage, but, obviously he was in great hands,” added Jody, Sage’s dad. Jody will focus on the cadet program at future races. “I think I’ve learned a couple things about Cadet and Junior Sportsman competition along the way. I really look forward to keeping the MRP Birel product in the front of the field. Chris will continue to work with Sage and I plan on doing what I am comfortable with”. Jody, teamed with Tim Lobaugh, tuned Sage to a WKA Triple Crown and A Stars of Karting Triple Crown in the same year (2007). Karam is the winningest Junior Sportsman/Cadet on American soil. Sage will leave next week for his first Skip Barber National race in Sebring. “I will continue to race karts to keep me sharp for Formula car racing. I am really pumped for my first National race. I have a really good sponsor that lets me just focus on my driving. It’s tough when you have to worry about crash damage – that’s when you have accidents and don’t finish races.” The MazdaSpeed driver will have a busy week starting on Monday. Racing finals will be on Thursday and Friday at the legendary Sebring Speedway.
