10/19/09 -- Sage Karam Captures Double Pole Position's and Feature Win in Skip Barber Series at Lime Rock, Third in Overall Standings, Awarded Free Star Mazda Test Written By: Sage Karam Racing LAKEVILLE, CT - (October 19th, 2009) -- American open-wheel teenage sensation, Sage Karam, captured both poles in qualifying and followed it up with a race victory in the Skip Barber National Series at Lime Rock Race Park. Karam’s first pole in qualifying was in the dry and he backed it up the following day with a pole in the rain. Sage later went on to win the main feature event race by over 2 seconds. Karam’s Oso*Fresh and Michael Fux Foundation sponsored car was adorned in pink trim and ribbons to raise awareness towards National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “I dedicated this victory to a tremendous teacher and coach that is friends with my dad at Liberty High School ( Bethlehem, Pa). Ginnie Rohn is a fantastic individual and is showing amazing determination in her fight”. Karam capped off the stellar weekend with a new track record to add to his accomplishment. “I felt really good in the car and I was confident because we were quick right away. “I learned this track from one of the greatest driving coaches, Bruce MacInnis, the first time I stepped in a race car. Bruce was here today and I wanted to win in front of him.” MacInnis was impressed with his young student’s success. “I am very excited and impressed with Sage. The fastest driver usually doesn’t win in the rain, because they make mistakes. Today the fastest guy won and he didn’t make any mistakes. He drove perfect. I am excited and proud to be a part of Sage’s career, he is a tremendous talent. I knew he was special the first time I saw him perform”. “I couldn’t wait to call my manager, Michael Fux, as soon as I got out of the car and thank him. With his support I was able to finish 3rd in the overall National standings. I was also able to improve and progress every race because of the support that he gave me,” added Sage. “I must give credit to my driving coach Mr Bob Ziegel. Bob worked hard with me in digging myself out of the hole I created early in the season. It definitely hurt coming into the season with only two regional races under my belt. I feel I could have done much better in the standings, if I would have done a whole season of regional competition last year”, said Sage. Sage was awarded the Rising Star Award at the Skip Barber banquet Saturday night. The award grants Karam a free Star Mazda test with WorldSpeed Motorsports. The session will be conducted at Infineon Speedway, in Sonoma CA. Karam is a MazdaSpeed Developmental driver and the youngest winner of the Skip Barber Scholarship Shootout. “I am excited to test the Star Mazda and am grateful that Skip Barber voted to give me the award”. “Next season begins today and I will continue my fitness program. A lot of people have been asking what we are doing next year and I am sure it will be challenging.” “Lastly, I’d like to thank the Skip Barber mechanics for keeping my car running Oso*Fresh”.
