8/25/09 -- Sage Karam Road American Recap Written By: Sage Karam Racing Elkhart, WI - (August 25th, 2009) -- Sage Karam continues his assault on the points standings in the Skip Barber National series. Sage scored a 4th and 7th place finish this weekend at road America to move into 5th place in the standings. In his rookie season with Barber, Karam is the youngest driver (14) and continues to impress. Sage entered the season as the youngest (13) Skip Barber Shootout Scholarship winner. With only two regional races under his belt, Sage started off with an eye-opening race at Sebring with a 18th place in the standings. It didn’t take long for Sage to turn the tide and he quickly climbed the points standings. “I am very happy to be up to 5th place already with the drop factored in. I really think I am not done climbing and look to do even better. I really want to get a win before the season ends”, said Sage. Karam led several laps this past weekend and has become a regular frontrunner in the series. While in second place in Race #1, Sage’s right mirror fell off and he couldn’t make right turns without concern of contact with his fellow competitors. “I knew it was over when six cars passed me in Canada Corner. I couldn’t take the chance of turning without seeing them, so I went into damage control and just tried to save points as best as possible. It was a shame because I felt we could have won or at least podiumed”. Sage salvaged a 7th place finish. Race #2 ended with controversy and heartbreak for Karam. “I set the fast lap of the race and was sure I was going to win. I led several laps, just not the right one. I am not exactly sure of how the officiating was determined. I am not totally familiar with the rules yet and I guess I have to get a better understanding. I got 4th place points, which is good, but I am really upset because I thought I should have won.” “Overall, I had a good time this past weekend. I am just disappointed that I didn’t get my first win yet. I’d like to thank my manager, Mr Michael Fux and my driving coach Bob Ziegel. A lot of my racing friends are already asking me my plans for next year. I am not sure if I will stay in America or race in Europe yet. My manager, my parents and I will make a decision after the National season ends. It’s tough because my age (14) puts a real limit on what I can do.” Sage leaves today for New Castle Motorsports Park for the World Karting Associations National Championships. Practice is Thursday and Friday and racing will begin on Saturday and end on Sunday. Karam will compete in four different classes on the weekend. Sage has a 9 race podium streak going and is looking to take it into double digits. Sage will be vacationing in South Beach, Miami this week before returning to perform some independent testing.
