7/21/09 -- Karam Grabs Top Five at Barber Motorsports Park Written By: Sage Karam Racing BURMINGHAM, AL - (July 21st, 2009) -- All’s well that ends well! Sage Karam picked up the pace and rounded-out the fourth weekend of the Skip Barber National series with a well earned 4th place finish. Sage was quick to give coaching credit to the right person. “I really have to thank my driving coach, Mr Bob Ziegler for breaking the track down and keeping me calm”, said Sage. “Bob never gave up on me and he kept after me”. On Thursday, Karam lost the first practice session due to contact. The second practice session was cancelled because of severe storms. With the third practice session being a wet-tire setup, Sage was starving for a dry racing condition session. During the third session, the Skip Barber Formula car’s engine let go. Friday found Sage in a new Skip Barber Formula car for his one and only complete dry session. The highlight of the day found Karam qualifying as high as 6th. “I knew I could work with a 6th place starting position, so, I wasn’t too upset. I was pretty upset the way the weekend was going up to that point though. Racing is so tough. I learned that I have to accept some responsibility for the bad luck, but, it’s still really tough.” Sage and his dad went bowling that evening and tried to keep things light. The spell of bad luck didn’t end during Race #1, Sage got around the wrong drivers and was hit from behind. “My dad has this saying that we live by “’If your around trouble, your in trouble,” so, he was right again”. Karam gathered up the car and fought back catching the tail of the field and finishing 10th. “I knew that every point would matter, so I fought hard. I never give up”. Things got good, real good, for Race #2. Sage found himself battling with the leaders in a five-car breakaway. He was up to third place for several laps of the race. Shuffling between 3rd and 5th place, Sage found himself running out of laps and having to finish in 4th place. The Michael Fux Foundation/Oso*Fresh sponsored driver was thrilled with his finish. “I knew I could well. We gained a lot of points on the weekend and moved into 7th place overall. Our long-term goal for this year is to finish in the top 5 of the championship. I am sure we will continue to work at succeeding. I’d like to offer Michael Fux a very special thank you”. Karam is the least experienced regular competitor in the National series. Entering the season with only two Regional race weekends, and at 13 years-old, Karam knew it would be a tall order. “I learned a lot over the past four race weekends about racing. I wish I could redo those first two races (Sebring and VIR), but I am making great progress”. Sage will be vacationing in South Beach, Miami this week before returning to perform some independent testing. Investing in Sage is easy and exciting.
