8/4/08 -- Karam Storms Through Canada!

By: Karam Racing

MONT TREMBLANT, CANADA - (August 4th, 2008) -- Sage Karam made in three-in-a-row wins on Saturday with a dominating performance. Sage put the #99 Skip Barber Formula car on pole during Saturday’s session by over .275 of a second. With rain in the forecast, the feature race started in wet. As the beautiful Canadian circuit dried up, so did the chances of anybody catching Sage. Sage’s margin of victory was almost 3 seconds over his nearest competitor and 22 seconds over the third place driver.

“I was really nervous when the officials decided to put me in a group that had the current Championship point’s leader and some very experienced drivers. It was only my second race weekend, but, I knew I had a very good chance. I wanted to race against these guys for a while to see where I stood against them. Most of these guys were here before and knew the track. I had to learn the circuit in short time. I was shocked when I learned I won the pole position in qualifying”, added Sage.

When asked about his aggressive style of driving, Sage replied, “I never want to finish a race and wonder what could have been if I did this or tried that, you know? So, things kinda just happen really quick for me. I like working my race craft and being challenged by other drivers that have a strategy too. I use to just see a pass and take it, now I plan my passes as a race goes on”.

On Sunday, Sage was going for his fourth consecutive win and things were going smoothly until he entered turn 7 on the 7th lap. “I was having fun, in the lead and feeling good. But, as I entered turn 7, the gearbox gave way and the rear-end went loose as I applied the throttle in mid-apex of the turn. I couldn’t keep the car on the track and my opponent passed me. I got the car back on the track and my opponent got like a 3 second lead on me.” Sage ran down his opponent and passed him within two laps. Sage lost fourth gear completely along the way and had to bring it into the pits while leading the race. “At this stage of racing, I would have had to bring the car in anyway because all four wheels left the track. It’s a bummer because I ran the fastest lap of the entire weekend during that race. I think I was over .2 faster than anybody.”

Sage’s Skip Barber experience has been rewarding and positive. “I’d really like to keep the Skip Barber Racing Series going, but, I have to find some funding. We work as hard off the track as we do on the track. It would be really nice if somebody stepped up and supported my Skip Barber Formula Car racing.”
