6/30/08 -- Sage Karam Captures Win at Inaugural Formula Skip Barber Event By: Karam Racing ELKHART LAKE, WISCONSIN - (June 30th, 2008) -- Sage Karam continues to dazzle the racing industry as he navigates through the motorsports ranks. Sage captured his inaugural Formula Skip Barber race at Road America over the weekend. Sage arrived on the scene and quickly got up to speed on the four (4) mile circuit. Sage amazed everybody by qualifying the car on pole position Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorms postponed racing until Sunday. On Sunday morning, the thirteen-year-old sensation started the race from pole position and never looked back. Sage actually broke the draft and checked out, winning by 11 seconds over second place. Skip Barber personnel performed the customary water dowsing of the new Champion upon returning to the pits. “I can’t believe I won! I wanted this for a long time. Now, I know for sure that this is what I want to do the rest of my life. My Skip Barber instructors taught me well. Everybody worked hard,” replied Sage. For the final race on Sunday, Karam decided to start from the back of the pack and gain valuable experience. “I want to win, but, I also want to prepare for bigger things down the road. I knew starting in the back would develop my race craft. We use to do this sort of thing (starting in the back of the pack) in karting and it really helped me. Karam quickly charged through the field and in lap 2 found himself leading! Sage drove flawlessly and won by over a 5 second margin. “I located my mom and dad in the stands and gave them a sweet fist-pump during my victory lap, I’ll never forget it.” “The debriefing with my instructors went well. I learned some great things and look forward to competing again. Now, we’ll head back to Nazareth and shake the sponsor-tree to see how much racing we’ll do the rest of the summer. Just recently, Skip Barber eliminated the Sportsman and Championship (experienced) categories for competition. All of the entrants are combined regardless of experience. As a rookie racer, Sage found himself competing against some of the finest Barber racers in the country. The entry list topped out at 80 competitors for the weekend. Since Sage joined the series so late into the season, any chance of winning an overall championship this year has been eliminated. Karam will compete on a race-by-race itinerary as sponsors and scheduling permit.
