Sage Karam Captures WKA Triple Crown

By: Karam Racing

NEW CASTLE, IN - (October 1st, 2007) -- What do you call a kid that doesn’t drive his best and wins two National races and finishes with a 2nd and 3rd in the other two races? You call him World Karting Association’s newest Triple Crown Winner and 30x National Champion! Sage did it.

Sage had an unbelievably tough week at school with a lot of projects, tests and assignments. The demands only got tougher with having to attend football practice every night until 8:00 pm. The pressure was weighing heavy on Sage to meet the deadlines so he could attend the WKA event. Late hours of studying and early morning starts may have chinked Sage’s armor, but, not enough to deny him his dream of the Triple Crown.

Sage started off Saturday knowing he had to finish ahead of the racer in 2nd place in points in the Yamaha Jr. Sportsman national standings. With that racer not being a factor due to a near accident, Sage still continued to race hard and crossed the finish in the grass while going for the win. The grass must have been cut too high and Sage finished 3rd. The finish was good enough to lock the Yamaha National Championship up for Sage.

On to the ever-competitive Cadet final. With the Championship already locked up, Sage could just enjoy the racing and not have to worry about finishing anywhere special. The race was a photo finish from the Yamaha event, but this time, again, Sage finished mowing the grass to a 2nd place finish.

“On Saturday, I think I was tired and made a lot of mistakes that I usually don’t make. I had a hard week and I think it caught up with me. I went to bed early on Saturday hoping to be ready on Sunday”, Sage said.

The extra rest must have worked. Sage was phenomenal on Sunday. The most anticipated race of the weekend was the HPV Jr. Sportsman final. Sage held a 10 point lead over his nearest competitor and the tension was building. The race went smooth and Sage pulled out a 7 second lead on the Championship contender, who was in a distant 3rd, but, Sage refused to back off and wanted the win badly. Sage finshed the race crossing the finish line spinning ahead of his opponent in one of the most exciting finishes this season. The win locked up the 3rd Championship of the Triple Crown.

The day wasn’t over by no means. The cadet final proved to be exciting as usual. Sage found himself leading the battle with a familiar contender out front, with a hug lead on the field. Sage actually crossed the finish line in 2nd place but, due to on-track blocking actions, the winner was placed behind Sage allowing him to accomplish his 30th National win. “I remember last year in WKA I zigged and zagged at South Bend and it was considered blocking. My win was taken away and I was moved to 3rd place. It cost me the National title last year in Yamaha and I learned a valuable lesson. It was pretty much the same thing that happened here today, said Sage. Today we talked about it with the official and my competitor. He admitted what he did and things are cool with me. I just want to race.”
